PC Community Main Meeting
7:30 - 10 pm April 7, 2017
Calvary Baptist Church 28924 Ruus Road, Hayward California
President Chuck Horner called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm. Get at least one $5 raffle ticket for this month’s raffle prize, a SanDisk 64 GB USB 3 flash drive.
Presentation: Member Andrew Tews offered some wisdom about Windows: don’t install updates until they’ve been out for at least 30 days. Set options not install automatically. In the new version, Security settings have moved. Also, many features are automatically added even though they have been de-selected in earlier installations. After updating, run CCleaner to get rid of the leftovers from the process.
It’s worth the extra $20 or so to buy Windows Pro, rather than Windows Home. You can customize Windows Pro to choose features (and de-select them) as you install or update.
Chuck is wondering if a touch screen makes sense on a desktop system. The group agreed probably not for data and word processing. Similarly, the option to use your computer to make phone calls may make sense if you’re making a lot of calls, since it saves dialing; but it’s probably not that much of a help for most people in most situations.
