WiFi does not seem to be working. The Restrooms are are where we left them, in the building to the west.
We have a visitor, but no new members.
President Chuck Horner had surgery yesterday. For anyone who wishes to send get-well wishes, there is a card for him on the back table.
We need a Newsletter editor as well as people to help with publicity and programs. Thank you, Elsie Smith, for 8 years of outstanding service as print and electronic newsletter editor.
Presentation:
Member Andrew Tews presented described how to create a bootable USB drive. Originally the process was quite complicated. Microsoft developed a quick, easy way strategy.
If your device has a DVD drive, you can buy a program that has a bootable DVD. Or download the process from Microsoft. In either case you will have an .iso file.
1: Microsoft USB Bootable Disc Creator
2: Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool

Windows 7 USB DVD Download tools require .Net Framework 2.o or higher (.Net Framework 3.5 includes .Net 2.0 and 3.0)

You will need ISO file of the operating system (Win7 or Win 8.1). (In Greek "iso" means "equal.")
An ISO image is an archive file of an optical disk, a type of disk image composed of the data contents of every written sector of an optical disk, including the optical disc file system.
ISO image files usually have a file extension of .iso.

4. Ways to Create a Bootable Windows 7 or Vista USB Drive
To create a bootable USB, look for Windows7 DVD Download Tool in a search engine. (The Microsoft Store will say it cannot find the file.) The name says Windows 7, but the program works with Windows 8 also. You will need a USB drive with at least 4GB. Different brands of laptop use different Function keys to enter the boot manager, which you will need to change to booting from the USB rather than from the hard
drive.
Diane George will publish the presentation on the website.
There was some discussion about access to AT&T mail, which has been challenging. Starting in November, AT&T mail has been asking users to upgrade. AT&T changed settings for the incoming and outgoing mail.

No one had any new electronic toys to share, though Andrew and Diane George reported getting new cameras.
Yorkman Lowe reported getting an email purportedly from Twitter saying that someone claiming to be "Dean Scott" invited him to join Twitter. Yorkman does not know anyone named Dean Scott and was unable to contact Twitter. He was advised to ignore the email and delete it.
Additionally, Yorkman had a flier announcing an internet security lecture next week at the San Francisco Main Library.
Several members reported receiving email forms purportedly from merchants asking for data. It is OK to hover over links, to see if they match the printed address. But do NOT click on anything and do NOT reply. Replying just confirms that the scammers have found a valid email address. Another scheme involves an actual delivery person at the door asking for a credit card to cover delivery charges.
Thank you to George Kornbluth for taking care of refreshments and to Michael Wong for managing room logistics.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:16 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Bayle Emlein,
Secretary
