Chuck has had a discussion with the new principal at Hayward Adult School. We are in the process of developing a memo of understanding so that PCC can have a refurbishing space there again.
Presentation: Kristine Watson, General Manager of Comfort Keepers—based in Alameda--talked about technology to help seniors and the elderly stay independent in their own home. The Comfort Keepers philosophy is that nothing is more important than helping people live full, independent and dignified lives within the comfort of their own homes.
Kristine has been involved in technology and health care for many years, both in the US and internationally. Her company has recently been purchased by Sodexo, expanding the market and range of services and resources. She has found that other countries--such as England, Japan, and Canada--do a better job than the US in caring for their elderly.
Kristine reviewed her hand-out that covers living choices and costs for people who cannot live independently. She explained the Comfort Keepers concept of interactive care.
Comfort Keepers tries to provide cost-effective solutions to help people stay in their homes and to support families. PERS in this context means Personal Emergency Response System. Other technology includes two way voice monitoring, portable GPS, medication reminders and dispensers.
