PC Community Main Meeting
7:30 - 10 pm September 5, 2014
Calvary Baptist Church 28924 Ruus Road, Hayward California

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm by President Chuck Horner. See Lola Hunter at the ticket table, for raffle tickets, door prize tickets, and 3" x 5" cards to write questions for discussion/answers at the end of the Meeting. Get at least one $5 raffle ticket for this month's raffle prize, a Lite-On internal DVD writer.

Presentation: Chuck Horner presented several scanners from Wolverine Technologies. The scanners are designed to transfer slides and negative film to digital format. They can be found WolverineData.com. The site also has very clear instructional videos as well as downloadable PDF manuals.

Diane George presented a Flip-Pal. It is a small, very portable battery-operated scanner. It facilitates scanning photos and documents in the field. The lid snaps off for scanning larger images. It comes with software that will blend overlapped shots for paintings and other big pictures and an EyeFi card for easy transfer. Scanning provides better resolution than taking a photo of an item. This is especially important for older, handwritten documents that have faded.

Tip for photo management: In Windows, right-click on a photo and go to Properties. A metadata box opens where you can add comments, a title, and other data. All information in the metadata is searchable.

Diane George was awarded a certificate of participation from Association of PC User Groups for joining the in the Website Contest at the Southwest Computer and Technology Conference.

President Chuck Horner solicited topics for future presentations. These included PhotoShop; GIMP; Picasa; creating gift items; field trip to a UC computer science project; ID theft, hacking, and security; TechShop tool rental facility.
