7:30 - 10 pm October 10, 2016
Calvary Baptist Church 28924 Ruus Road, Hayward California
The meeting organized itself and started at 7:32 pm. The group rearranged itself into a circle. Get at least one $5 raffle ticket for this month’s raffle prize, Adata 32 GB flash drive.
Samsung battery problems were a topic of discussion again. Andrew Tews pointed out that lithium ion batteries in general tend to overheat. One cause of the problem is that users never allow their batteries to completely discharge. Additionally, overcharging batteries will shorten their life.
Mimi Tse has a question about how to delete a single bookmark in Yahoo mail. Care in selecting the correct position to right-click was suggested. AT&T email is now handled through Yahoo: changing passwords is suggested.
Anybody updating Windows 10? Michael Wong said that his computer crashes after working in it for 2 hours. He is running the beta on the problem computer. Andrew noted that buried somewhere on the Microsoft website is a notice that it is necessary to install the final version. Michael’s update notification and the Start menu are both blank. He doesn’t know how to ask the question in terminology that gets him the answers he needs. Andrew suggested going to Windows Repair.
A member question: Can an iPhone be used overseas? You’ll need to install an appropriate SIM card. Andrew got an inexpensive phone for traveling. He swaps out the SIM cards as needed.
Another question: What can be done about lights blinking green and red on my router? Note the pattern and search for “blinking lights” to help figure out the error code.
Some tips for checking information: DailyMail.Co.UK has better news reporting about the US than most American outlets. TruthOrFiction and Snopes report on scams and the accuracy of internet information. For busy people: Information Clearinghouse has story summaries, which can be expanded.
