PC Community Main Meeting
7:30 - 10 pm August 5, 2016
Calvary Baptist Church, 28924 Ruus Road, Hayward California
President Chuck Horner called the meeting to order at 7:56 pm. Get at least one $5 raffle ticket for this month’s raffle prize, a Logitech USB wireless mouse.
Chuck proposed inviting someone from the Chamber of Commerce who does computer repair to come to talk at the next meeting. The suggestion was greeted with enthusiasm. Mimi Tse requested demos of applications. Paul Cooper suggested that each member knows something others don’t, and could share.
Presentation: The group discussed various personal questions and explored solutions.
There are 2 reasons Chuck doesn’t put food or drink near his computer. 1.He spilled hot Jell-o onto his laptop. 2. One needs to get up and move around periodically.
Paul Cooper always sets his phone down on a surface higher than his phone. Chuck suggested letting a child hold your phone while you’re in the car. That way you’re more likely to remember to bring the phone–and the kid–with you.
NoMoRobo is a subscription service that blocks calls from known automatic dialers.
For safer computing: an Open DNS connection reduces phishing attacks. The DuckDuckGo browser reserves anonymity.
Sally asked when her membership dues are due this year. George Kornbluth (Treasurer) will approach Jan (VP Membership)
Chuck asked about the Ring connected doorbell. Does anyone have personal experience with it or a similar device?
George loves his Patriot Fuel iON wireless cell phone chargers. Look for them at http://www.patriotmemory.com/fuelion/
Yorman Lowe got a notice during viewing email that unless he installed suggested apps his computer was in danger. He is wondering if anyone has hear of them and whether he should uninstall them. The general agreement was to stick with known anti-malware programs
The next PCC Main Meeting was scheduled for September 2. The group voted to move it to September 9 because of the Labor Day Weekend.
