PC Community Main Meeting
7:30 - 10 pm May 6, 2016
Calvary Baptist Church 28924 Ruus Road, Hayward California
In the absence of President Chuck Horner, the meeting began at 7:50 pm. Get at least one $5 raffle ticket for this month’s raffle prize, a Bestek wall charging station.
Presentation: The group tried to look at some APCUG virtual technology conference presentations but couldn’t get the audio.
The group then moved on to a discussion of Windows 10. If you look in All Apps and drill down to Windows Accessories, toward the end of the menu you can find a lot of interesting things: the Snipping Tool allows you to capture and save a section of a screen shot. Things like Paint have come along from earlier versions of Windows.
The built-in Backup is in System > Settings > Update and Security.
The group then looked up the donated ink cartridge and found out that it goes to a HP 7520 e all-in-one. Anybody have one of those? Printer ink is, ounce for ounce, the most expensive liquid on earth.
Also under Security are several articles discussing ransomware and how to recover from a ransomware lockdown. WoT (Web of Trust) is a browser add-on that warns about untrustworthy sites.
Unlike the Internet Explorer list of all your bookmarked sites, Windows Edge is a collection of graphical links and ads.
The group then spent some time looking at the news on sites based outside of the US. These provide a different take on the world. Mimi Tse reported that while in Beijing she could not get any news from Hong Kong.
Questions: Where are the missing files in Windows 10 that don’t show up after a cleanup operation? There are several levels of Hidden files in Windows 10. But the temporary files are not reported.
Does anyone know how BleachBit compares with other system cleaners? Andrew Tews downloaded it to his computer. Michael Wong thinks it finds “more stuff” than Ccleaner. Did it clean up the temporary files in IE? It seems to have deleted some.
