Sally distributed a ballot for voting for the 2016 PCC Board of Directors to each member present, with instructions to vote for up to 5. She then collected the voted ballots. Diane George and Andrew Tews tallied the votes. The 2016 Board of Directors is: Chuck Horner, Paul Cooper, Bayle Emlein, Don Odle, Lola Hunter.
Sally had some interesting statistics regarding PCs on the internet: Windows7 has 56.1% of users. Windows in total accounts for 91.4% of PC users, Apple accounts for 7% of users, and Linux 1.6%.
Presentation: Diane demonstrated using Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 to repair some badly damaged slides. She mentioned that the program is on sale at Costco through December. She used the Spot Healing Brush and the Clone Stamp and demonstrated being sure that your brush is small enough to avoid picking up extraneous pixels. When editing photographs, she strongly suggests saving the edited version with a new name so that if you don’t like your work you can go back to the original. If starting with a scanned image, make it as high-resolution as possible so that you have as many pixels as possible to work with. You may get detail that was not visible in the original, especially older photographs. You can downsize your work later, as in making smaller files for web pages.
Diane demonstrated opening and searching the Elements manual. She then demonstrated using the Control+F function to search for a term in web page. She also demonstrated using the character map.
Paul Cooper suggested Paint.Net, which leads you to an open source paint program for windows.
Lola Hunter asked about changing the wallpaper in Windows 10. Start in Personalization, the go to Background. Or right-click on the background.
In addition to Cortana—the voice-activated assistant—Windows 10 has fairly good speech recognition, which includes system commands.
Diane has many, many passwords. She prefers using Roboform to keep track of them. To her it is worth the expense to have the security and portability.
