The meeting was called to order at 7:41 P.M. by President Chuck Horner. Hayward Adult School will be closed July 4th and 5th. Most of those present would like to postpone July’s Main Meeting to the 11th. Chuck will verify the availability of the room.
SIG Announcements:
Del Parton reminded everyone that the Hardware SIG will meet starting at 8:00 P.M. tomorrow evening at the Smith’s. Bring as much documentation as you can find.
The New User SIG will not meet in July.
The Palm SIG meets in this same building.
Jan Fagerholm announced that the Spectacular Linux SIG will meet on the last Saturday, June 28th. Exciting news: KDE version 4 has finally rolled out. It’s incorporated into lots of interesting places to look at and they’ll attempt to finish last months’ Mandriva project.
Other Announcements:
NTI has a user group special for free download of a full working version, good through June 8th. Through the month of June, Kingston is offering a substantial discount to user groups who participated in the San Diego conference.
Presentations:
Kevin McGary of LightsTogether presented social net-working technology that enables people to stay connected. It will be spread throughout Hayward at no cost to the users. The full commercial release will take place within 90 days. It is designed to accommodate groups and group hierarchies as well as the one-to-one and one-to-many communication supported by those other social networking programs. It is a full, private-label networking tool that can be customized. Kevin anticipates interactive, real-time social-network communication replacing e-mail in the next 6 to 10 years. The service can be used to convey emergency SMS messages. It can reduce the costs of communication.
Tonight’s tip:
You can Save an e-mail as a text file. Then you can manipulate it. This can be a way to get around an uncooperative e-mail program.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:32 P.M.
The next meeting is likely to take place at the same location on July 11, 2008.
Respectfully submitted, Bayle Emlein, Secretary
