Presentation:
Michaela Sweatt of Nurture Connect introduced the Telikin computer system. The Telikin is a Linux-based system, additional security hardware is unnecessary. Nurture Connect is a company that focuses on health and wellness, safety and security, learning, and communication and engagement products that will help people live independently longer. They help consumers and health care supporters identify and locate appropriate solutions. Computers are very complicated for non-techies to use. Michaela reported how much her 8-year-old nephew enjoys the touch screen and the brain-enhancement games.
Telekin comes pre-set up. It uses Facebook for photosharing. E-mail is one click away. The Telekin Touch has 3 user licenses. The Elite adds 3 more users and more ports. The Touch is priced at $699, the Elite starts at $999. For an additional fee, more users can be added.
A menu down the left side of the screen remains constant, so the user can easily return to the Home Screen. A modified, user-friendly version of Skype is pre-installed for video conferencing. The Telikin will transfer photos from a USB drive or SD card. They are organized into albums for easy e-mailing. The Calendar function allows remote scheduling through the Tech Buddy feature.
The Tech Buddy allows remote support. The Buddy downloads software to a desktop for signing into a Telikin to support its user. Telephone support is included in the price of a Telikin. It is not 24/7, but it is US-based.
From the Question Cards, how do you change the boot order in a Mint system? In Start-Up Manager you can select the Time-Out Delay, Default Operating System, and other parameters.
Chuck asked about problems viewing the Hayward Daily Review home page. The general consensus was that it is a browser problem.
Thank you to Michael Wong for taking care of refreshments.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Bayle Emlein, Secretary
