Presentation: Member Bayle Emlein talked about various aspects of ergonomics. Ergonomics is the science and art of making the environment fit you. Each of us has a different body size and configuration of the component parts, so we each need different chairs, tables and work surfaces, keyboard and monitor height, etc. Bayle brought a number of alternate input devices for hands that do not work well with standard mice, and other adaptive gizmos and gadgets. Eyeball stickers were available to place 1/4 of the way down from the top of your screen to remind users where their eyes should focus when looking straight ahead. If you can position your monitor so that it is not flat against a wall, it is easier to vary your focus to relax your eyes. But you need to get up and move around frequently. Fidgetting is healthy.
Diane has the Powerpoint and handouts that review computer ergonomics. She will put them up on the website.

Question: My computer goes to black and gray in the first 5 minutes when I turn it on, running under Linux Mint 9. Further research is needed. If anyone has the answer, please share it.
Any time you get a pop-up saying your browser, Java, or another site needs updating do NOT click on it. It is more than likely a phishing scam. The same for solicitations from "your bank." If you think you might need an update, initiate the request to the institution's website yourself. If it's true, it will be true if you go to the original website that makes the application. The request might be legitimate, it might not.
Another question: Avast for Mac is not working. How do I repair or repair it? Contacting Bob Gostischa, the Avast Evangelest who presented last month, is suggested.
Chuck Horner and Lola Hunter each renewed their PC Community memberships.
Thank you to Sally Holt and Michael Wong for taking care of refreshments, to Yorkman Lowe for his contribution, and to Michael Wong for managing the signs.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Bayle Emlein, Secretary
